“For me, this isn’t a game. It’s not about scoring political points for their own sake. It’s about improving our communities and making a real, meaningful difference in people’s lives.

That’s why I do this work.

If that’s what you want to do too, I’d love to get to know you and help bring your ideas to life.”

Meet Lauren Harmon Murphy

As an advocate, storyteller, and trusted advisor, Lauren Harmon Murphy has spent almost two decades working to build a more durable progressive infrastructure.

Lauren got her start as an organizer in her home state of Arizona. After leading campaigns across the country –from City Council to Attorney General – she served as Executive Director of the Democratic Party of Virginia as Democrats swept all three statewide offices in 2013.

Lauren led the Ohio Democratic Party’s coordinated campaign efforts before landing in Washington, D.C. as Director of Voting and Democracy Campaigns for the Center for American Progress Action Fund (CAPAF). In that capacity, she developed and executed innovative state and national advocacy campaigns around voting rights, democracy reform, and GOP accountability.

Honing a love of storytelling and creative messaging strategy, Lauren served as Senior Vice President at the boutique progressive direct mail firm Bergmann Zwerdling Direct (BZD), where she advised candidate, nonprofit, and ballot measure campaigns in messaging, targeting, and strategy.

Lauren then joined the Association of State Democratic Committees (ASDC) at the Democratic National Committee (DNC). Here, she worked with State Democratic Parties across the country to develop and fund innovative voter contact programs and build the in-state infrastructure that wins elections.

Lauren served as Head of Political Strategy for Swing Left and its related c4 organization Vote Forward during the pivotal 2022 midterm cycle, managing not only the organizations’ strategic political positioning and candidate support operations, but also developing impactful partnerships across a suite of political, non-profit, tech, and corporate entities in support of voter engagement work.

As of late 2023, Lauren is thrilled to return to ASDC as Deputy Executive Director, focusing on supporting the Association’s political, operational, and outreach efforts to supercharge the work of the 57 State Democratic Parties across the country and around the world.

Lauren has been recognized by her peers as a 2018 American Association of Political Consultants “40 Under 40” winner. Lauren and her husband Jody live in the Navy Yard neighborhood of Washington, D.C., where they are #DCStatehood advocates, local restaurant frequenters, wannabe future dog owners, and proud — albeit occasionally disgruntled— Washington Nationals season ticket holders.
