“As a Democrat from small-town Texas, I’m no stranger to big challenges and even bigger odds.
But I’m a firm believer that there’s no problem that can’t be solved — and that big problems require getting the fundamentals right while not shying away from creative solutions.
I’ve spent my career building teams and programs that over-perform: maximizing each opportunity and every single dollar to attack those problems head-on… and win.
If that sounds like what you need, let’s talk — and let’s get to work.”
Meet Jody Murphy
A problem solver and creative strategist who’s never been afraid to take on a tough fight, Jody Murphy brings more than two decades of experience in political and advocacy campaigns to HMC.
Raised first on the family farm in rural East Texas and then in small town central Oklahoma, Jody cut his teeth on long-shot local campaigns. After graduating from a small college, which he’d attended on a baseball scholarship, Jody went on to run – and win – legislative campaigns in some of the toughest turf in the Sooner State.
Recognizing a need for campaign leadership that will not shy away from even the toughest fights, Jody led large-scale state legislative programs in Oklahoma, Missouri, and Virginia as Executive Director of those legislative caucuses. In this capacity, he honed his ability to recruit strong candidates and help them tell their stories; to squeeze the biggest results out of the smallest budgets, with an eye to unique media opportunities; and to help organizations punch above their weight class politically with a strong partnership and outreach operation.
Building on this foundation, Jody went on to serve as Political Director and Independent Expenditure Director for the Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee (DLCC), working in 18 states across the country to lead unprecedented investments in in-state independent expenditure efforts while building local democratic infrastructure.
Most recently, Jody served as “Employee Number Five” of End Citizens United / Let America Vote – which started in 2015 as a small campaign finance-focused organization, and has since grown into a pro-democracy grassroots juggernaut that sets the bar for marrying independent expenditure communications with hard-side advocacy and partnership work.
After building the ECU I.E. program from the ground up over four cycles, managing investments in over 100 federal, state, and local races across the country, Jody also oversaw a $30 million research and paid communications effort in support of the Freedom to Vote Act advocacy campaign, working to pass groundbreaking pro-democracy legislation.
Jody departed ECU/LAV in 2024 as Chief Program Officer, having overseen the complex needs of an organization with a hard side, a soft side, a C(4), and above all a major responsibility to the progressive movement to keep campaign finance and voting rights issues front and center in the political conversation.
Jody has been recognized by his peers as a 2016 American Association of Political Consultants “40 Under 40” winner. Jody and his wife Lauren live in the Navy Yard neighborhood of DC, and are both proud Washington Nationals season ticket holders…
…Although Jody would like to make sure anyone reading this far into the bio knows he is a Texas Rangers supporter first and foremost, and that as a lifelong Dallas Cowboys fan he would never root for the Commanders — or whatever they’re calling themselves these days.
